In the Garden of Light & Sketches from Europe
|
|
If a city’s light could move an artist’s soul, what kind of light would it be?
This autumn, Paul Chiang brings the light and colors of Europe back to the Art Center. He traveled to Paris and Lisbon; Lisbon, a city whose light he describes as crisp and bright, where he completed the Sketches from Europe series. The In the Garden of Light series, meanwhile, continues to embody the energy of nature and the rhythm of life. Together, the exhibition presents over one hundred
new works, blooming with the freedom and expressive power of painting.
In the Garden of Light & Sketches from Europe not only features new creations but also revisits some of Chiang’s classic series. For the first time, Chiang’s studio is open to the public, allowing visitors a rare glimpse into the very origin of his creative process.

November Music Salon
Since the opening of the Art Center, musical performances have been held on one weekend each month. On November 15, cellist Chen Shih-Lin and pianist Miki Fujiwara will perform a four-movement musical journey inspired by Paul Chiang’s new series Sketches from Europe. On November 30, bandoneonist Wu Yung-Lung and violinist Lee Yun-Chieh will take the stage together, painting with color and sound a dialogue of light,
shadow, and the passion of tango. There will be two performances each day, the afternoon session is open free of charge to all visitors with a valid entry ticket, while the evening concert, held after closing, will be exclusive to annual members, inviting you to enjoy a serene performance under the autumn night sky.

Paul Chiang × Lee Mei-Ling Opening Dialogue
On the afternoon of October 25, the opening day of In the Garden of Light & Sketches from Europe, the Paul Chiang Art Center hosted its very first public talk. Moderated by Angela Tsai, CEO of the Paul Chiang Arts & Cultural Foundation, the session featured Honorary Director and curator Lee Mei-Ling in conversation with artist Paul Chiang. Together, they shared
stories behind the curatorial and exhibition process. Lee also offered an art-historical perspective on abstract painting and the evolution of how audiences engage with it, expressing her hope that "visitors may step into the Art Center as Alice entered Wonderland, discovering surprises at every turn." In the Q&A that followed, an audience member asked how Chiang transforms the landscape before his eyes and the emotions it stirs into abstraction. With a gentle smile, he replied, "It’s not as easy as it looks, but just paint! Technique is not what matters most; what truly matters is the feeling that comes from within."
