Tango suites and festive music unfold with Paul Chiang’s artworks, resonating as a quiet year-end blessing for this moment and this place.
Allow yourself to be enveloped by the fiery passion of Tango and the warmth of festive melodies. This is more than a concert—it is a year-end blessing, curated exclusively for this moment, and for you.
As Violinist Chih-Chang Hsueh reflects: just as Paul Chiang captures the essence of light, color, and imagery, the musician gathers the elements of rhythm, harmony, and melody to weave a world of sound.Music is a meditation of the soul. Our journey spans the emotional spectrum, drifting from the introspective melancholy of Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion to the vivid vitality of D. Milhaud’s Suite for Clarinet, Violin and Piano Op. 157b.
We then embrace the classic rhythms of Isaac Albéniz’s Tango Op. 165 No. 2 and the iconic Por una Cabeza. In the film Scent of a Woman, Lt. Col. Frank Slade (Al Pacino) famously compares life to this dance while teaching Donna the steps: "If you make a mistake, get all tangled up, just tango on." It is a timeless reminder of resilience—to keep moving forward even when life missteps.
Finally, pianists Chen Yung-Jen and Aya Fukushima will join forces for a four-hand rendition of Libertango, bringing the performance to a close with its spirited and intense rhythm.
