The sea is readily accessible, considering Taiwan's island nature, yet the beaches in each city create a different atmosphere and feel, even though they are all on the same east coast.
We drove south to Taitung, a city where, two years ago, we had the opportunity to hike in Dulan Mountain and stay at a hotel near a park. We spent a short time strolling around the city and felt an atmosphere that blended tranquility and simplicity, yet with a certain charm that shone brightly in the air. We discovered that this special quality is something many people share, and it has even inspired one of Taiwan's most renowned artists.
